AFTER a heart-wrenching draw last weekend in the league, we now turn our attention back to the Emirates FA Cup against fellow league opponents Spennymoor Town.
Last time out in the cup, we faced Mossley in a 3-0 victory away from home. Midfielder George Horbury was at the double, as well as Warren Clarke, to add to the tally.
The Opponents
Spennymoor Town are unbeaten in all competitions at the Brewery Field stadium this season.
Last time out in the Emirates FA Cup, the Moors convincingly defeated Morpeth Town 3-1.
Isaac Fletcher is Spennymoor Town's top goalscorer so far this season.
The midfielder scored two on the opening day against Chester and has been on fire ever since.
Fletcher has seven goals in the National League North so far and will be one to watch this Saturday.
In their last match against Morpeth Town, the Moors scored two goals from set pieces.
Although the Magpies have been excellent so far from a set piece, Andy Preece will certainly prepare for that area defensively.
The Manager
Graeme Lee is the man in charge. After being appointed in January of this year, Lee has had some impressive runs in charge of the club so far.
Going unbeaten from the 17th of February till the 26th of March, winning nine and drawing one in ten games.
Before becoming a manager, the 46-year-old was a defender, making over 500 senior appearances.
He played at clubs such as Hartlepool United, Sheffield Wednesday, Doncaster Rovers, Shrewsbury Town, Bradford City, Notts County, Darlington, and finally, Celtic Nation, where he retired in 2012.
As for his time in management, Lee has been at only three clubs, including the Moors.
He had his first job in management at Hartlepool United, where he led the club to the semi-finals of the EFL Trophy and had a nice run in the Emirates FA Cup, where he took the Pools to Crystal Palace.
Having only stayed at the club for six months, Lee moved on and joined Marske United last summer.
Having a tough situation at the club, the former defender guided them out of the drop zone before departing.
With Graeme Lee's experience in the FA Cup and their strong record at home this season, it will be a tough place for the Magpies to travel.
A word from Preecy
“This is going to be a very, very, tough encounter. We got a result away at Spennymoor last season but when we got the draw, this was one of a handful of ties you would have wanted to have avoided. They’ve only lost once at home in 2024 and we’ll have to be right at our best from the get go to get a result.”
