CHORLEY will hope to make it back-to-back wins on Tuesday night when they face Spennymoor Town at Victory Park.
The Magpies ended their winless run on Saturday as Jack Sampson’s goal secured all three points at home to Bedford Town and they will be up against a Moors side who have lost their last three games.
Graeme Lee's side were defeated by Darlington at the weekend and succumbed to Andy Preece’s side twice last season.
Last Time Out
The Magpies’ downhill streak came to its end at the weekend as Sampson’s first-half goal pushed them up to 12th in the Enterprise National League North.
Following on from being knocked out of the Isuzu FA Trophy by Worksop Town, Mark Ellis and Sampson returned to the starting eleven in place of Harvey Smith and Joe Nolan, with new signing Jack Griffiths among the substitutes.
Tyrone Marsh had an early chance for Bedford and they looked dangerous with the score set a 0-0.
The Magpies took the lead though through Sampson shortly before half time, with the number nine getting a faint touch on Jack Moore’s freekick to direct it in.
Moore’s set-pieces continued to threaten with Ellis and Mike Calveley both going close with headers.
The visitors’ best effort after the break came from Connor Barratt but the home side’s defence remained calm.
Their only worry came in the 85th minute when substitute Nolan received a controversial straight red card for a sliding challenge.
But the Magpies held on well to secure their first three points since 20 September and move up the table.
Opposition Focus
Spennymoor make the two-and-a-half-hour journey to Chorley off the back of Saturday’s late defeat at Darlington, which saw them drop out of the play-offs.
Curtis Main’s 91st-minute goal was enough to win a game marred with three red cards and make it three consecutive losses for the Moors.
After a ninth-place finish last season, they started the campaign well with three wins in their first four games but now sit just two points ahead of the Magpies.
Defenders Dan Jones and Olly Dyson were signed from Port Vale and York City in the summer, whilst former Everton youngster Katia Kouyate joined on loan from Barrow.
Veteran forward Glen Taylor continues to lead the line, into his 12th season with the club across two spells, having scored over 200 goals and led them to the FA Trophy final at the end of last season.
The striker is third in the division’s scoring charts for 2025/26 with 12 goals in 16 games, behind only Ricardo Rees and Tyrone Marsh.
Manager Graeme Lee took over in January 2024 after spells at Hartlepool United and Marske United.
Since then, he has taken them close to the play-offs and oversaw their Trophy run last year, which culminated in a 3-0 defeat to Step 1 side Aldershot Town.
Head-to-Head
Chorley did the double over Spennymoor last season, winning 2-1 away and 4-0 at home.
An own goal and a Mike Calveley header did the goods for the Magpies on the road in October.
In March, goals from Kole Hall, George Horbury, Kristi Montgomery and Momodou Touray sealed a spectacular win at Victory Park.
