CHORLEY travel to the north-east tomorrow to face Enterprise National League North leaders South Shields.

The Magpies are aiming to bounce back from defeat in midweek when they were beaten 4-1 at the 1st Cloud Arena, with Harry Ibbitson netting a late consolation.

Despite that result, Andy Preece’s side remain in touch with the early frontrunners and will be looking to respond positively against the Mariners.

Last Time Out

Chorley’s unbeaten run came to an end on Saturday as South Shields produced a strong performance to knock the Magpies out of the Emirates FA Cup.

Goals from Will Jenkins (2), Paul Blackett and Dan Dodds put the hosts out of sight before Ibbitson struck late on for the Magpies.

Chorley come into this game, sitting third in the table with 19 points from ten games.

Opposition Focus

Tomorrow’s opponents South Shields have set the pace at the top of the division, with Watson’s side winning nine of their opening ten matches.

They have the best defence in the league, conceding just five goals, and are spearheaded by in-form striker Blackett, who already has eight to his name this season.

Last weekend, they claimed a 2-1 win at Curzon Ashton before Saturday’s victory over Chorley extended their lead at the summit.

Head-to-Head

Last season’s meetings brought plenty of drama, with South Shields rescuing a 95th-minute equaliser in a 3-3 draw at the 1st Cloud Arena before Chorley won the return 2-1 at Victory Park.
