AFTER nine hugely successful years with the Magpies, our captain, Matt Urwin will leave the club at the end of this season.
Matt will now move on to a new, full-time coaching role with Blackburn Rovers as Senior Academy Goalkeeping Coach.
The 32-year old will now transition into the next chapter of his life, as a genuine Chorley legend. Urwin has heavily contributed to the Magpies' success in recent years, amassing a total of 382 appearances to date.
Originally joining the Magpies on loan back in August of 2017, the first of two loan spells, Matt's second season was a huge success - culminating in promotion to the National League and a memorable performance in the Magpies' 2-2 draw in the FA Cup against Doncaster Rovers.
Having signed permanently in January 2019, establishing himself as the number one for the Magpies, Matt played a big part in our famous FA Cup run in the 2020-21 season, and of course, was the hero in both of the 2018/19 playoff semi-final against Altrincham and the subsequent final against Spennymoor Town, pulling off multiple penalty saves in the shootouts.
Andy Preece promoted Matt as the club captain in the 2023/24 season having been Scott Leather's deputy, and he slotted seamlessly into the role, a leader both on and off the pitch for the group.
Over the years, Matt has scooped a number of different accolades and awards, including the Manager's Player of the Season, and multiple Team of the Season inclusions.
With only three games left to go of the National League North campaign, supporters will have the chance to give Matt the send-off that he deserves when the Magpies host Worksop Town on the final day, on Saturday, April 25.
