A youthful Magpies XI continued our strong start to pre-season with a well-earned 1-2 win away at Thornton Cleveley's on Tuesday evening.
Chorley started on the front-foot and came closest to opening the scoring first just after the quarter of an hour mark, Kyle Preece hitting an effort on the turn which was well saved after some initial smart work down the wing from Liam Birchall.
Preece then got in on the act barely a minute later, a smart cross from Trialist A put into the box where the former broke free but could only head the ball over the crossbar.
Sonny Reeves was next to chance his arm at an effort from distance, stinging the palms of the Cleveley goalkeeper who could only parry it out for a corner.
Birchall hit a free-kick which bounced in-front of the hosts' shot-stopper just before the half-hour mark but ultimately, the Magpies had to settle for a goal-less stalemate going in at the break.
Changes were made after the restart and Thornton took advantage of it quickly, bunding the ball home at the back post leaving Ollie Green helpless between the sticks to give the hosts the opener on 47 minutes.
Preece and Birchall combined well once more than ultimately worked together to get Chorley back on terms, the former tapping the ball home into an empty net after a great cross in from the left having beaten his marker.
Musa Jobe nets the winner for the Magpies (David Airey)
Musa Jobe sealed the win for the Magpies on the night with ten minutes to go, a great first-time cross in from Trialist A finding him at the back post, right place, right time to again tap in from close range.
