CHORLEY maintained their unbeaten run, extending it to a seven-game streak with a comprehensive 3-0 win against Buxton on Tuesday evening thanks to goals from Mark Ellis, Adam Blakeman and Mike Calveley.

It would be a slow opening to proceedings at the Grant Store Victory Park Stadium, with both teams settling into their rhythm.

Both sides took time to settle into their rhythm in the early stages, while Chorley were forced into an early change as Courtney Senior was forced off through injury.

Following the switch, Buxton had a golden opportunity to take the lead just ten minutes into proceedings.

Johnny Johnston found himself in a one-on-one situation with an on-rushing Matt Urwin after a smart through ball cut open the Magpie's defence, but he couldn't capitalize and fired wide after pressure was applied by Mark Ellis and Scott Wilson.

Just a few moments later, the visitors came close again with Johnston playing a clever ball across to captain Connor Kirby, who again forced Urwin into a stop down low to his right.

Just after the half-hour mark, Chorley won a corner thanks to some good work by Dubem Eze in midfield.

Adam Blakeman then delivered a pinpoint cross to find Ellis who rose above the rest to give the Magpies the lead.

Andy Preece’s side then held on for the remainder of the opening 45 minutes.

The visitors had the ball in the back of the net four minutes after the restart but a foul on Ellis stood in the way of Jon McGrath’s side making it a goal-apiece.

A few minutes later, manager Andy Preece was sent off with those in the Grant Store Victory Park Stadium bemused at the decision.

In the 68th minute, Chorley doubled their lead in a bizarre moment following a corner.

Blakeman delivered the set-piece on top of Grant and in a moment when the goalkeeper seemingly thought the ball had gone over the bar, he then pushed it into his own net.

Five minutes before the 90, another set-piece from a corner saw the Magpies extend their advantage to three.

Blakeman played a low cross to Ellis, who played it back to the full-back and delivered a well-weighted cross to Tom Carr, who flicked it on to Mike Calveley and the latter finished with aplomb to register his seventh goal of the season to send above Buxton and back into the play-off positions with two games in hand.
