AFTER the recent trip to Alicante, the Magpies are back home at the Grant Store Victory Park Stadium to host Wigan Athletic.
The match over in Spain could not have gone down any better, after producing a 1-7 victory over Alicante City. Chorley go into this fixture full of confidence.
The Tics had a troubled campaign with a points eight points deduction and a transfer embargo to match it was always going to be an uphill battle.
However finning the season 12th in the table after all the challenges thrown their way, Wigan have given themselves a platform to rebuild and look forward to in the 2024/25 season.
Shaun Maloney's men will look to make great improvements in League One.
The Opponents
Like our last opponents in the EFL, Wigan have signed four players so far and are looking to add more to their playing squad.
This will be a good fixture for their new additions to get familiar with their teammates.
With the latest addition being Will Aimson. The 30-year-old defender will add a lot of experience to a relatively young Latics side.
Wigan's best result in the season prior was against Bolton, where they would come out 4-0 victors against a side which would later finish the season in 3rd.
However, Bolton would fall short of being promoted to the Championship after losing to Oxford United in the play-off final.
The Manager
Shaun Maloney is fairly new to management when it comes to being a full-time manager at a top team.
Maloney managed only Hibernian before taking the Wigan job, so he has had to adapt quickly to his new role at the Tics.
However, the former Scottish international has gained plenty of experience working in Belgium, where he was Roberto Martinez's assistant manager from the 18/19 season to 21/22.
A word from Preecy
"A fantastic weekend over in Alicante, followed by rest, re-cooperation and now back into training for a big pre-season game against Wigan Athletic.
The lads did fantastically well in our first home game against Bradford City and hopefully we'll get plenty of our own supporters as well as those from Wigan, attending this one. Another opportunity to get minutes in the tank as we gear towards the domestic season."
