AFTER an eventful and fruitful pre-season, we now turn our attention to our first competitive game of the season as we take on Peterborough Sports in the Vanarama National League North.

The Opponents

The Turbines finished the National League North in 15th last season, a campaign which saw them finish one place below the season beforehand.

Peterborough Sports have been busy in the transfer window, signing seven players so far.

Most recently, the side has brought in two young players on loan, one from Lincoln City and the other from Doncaster Rovers.

MJ. Kamson-Kamara from Lincoln is a young defender who will be a good addition to the Turbine's back line.

Jack Goodman, who joins from Doncaster, is another youngster, but this time at the opposite end of the pitch. Starting as a striker and will be one to watch for Chorley's defence.

The Manager

Managerial duties are shared between Michael Gash and Luke Steele.

Gash still stands as player-manager and has a coveted career which has spanned across the footballing pyramid, both in the football league and non-league.

Statistically, the 37-year old had his best stints infront of goal at Cambridge City, Cambridge United and King's Lynn Town. This is his first job in management.

Steele is also new to management after having a successful career in football. He played in goal and joined clubs such as Manchester United, Panathinaikos, West Bromwich Albion, Barnsley, and Nottingham Forest.

Noticeably, Steele played in the Europa League with Panathinaikos and made just over 66 appearances for the Greek club.

As well as playing in goal, the former Panathinaikos goalkeeper also had a stint up front.

Scoring two goals as a striker at Deeping Rangers, which is not bad for a former goalkeeper.

A word from Preecy

"I can't wait to get the season underway this Saturday, of course, it's frustrating not to be opening our campaign at home but we know what it's like at Peterborough Sports. Michael and Luke's side were the last team we faced away before the playoffs last season and it'll be a stern test, with a long journey ahead of us on Saturday morning. Hopefully we'll have some of our own fans behind us and can get off to a winning start."
