CHORLEY suffered a 2-0 defeat in Oxfordshire at the hands of Oxford City on Saturday afternoon.

Goals from Ewan Clark and DJ Sturridge were enough for the Hoops to get the better of the Magpies in a game that lacked many clear-cut chances.

The first for Ross Jenkins’ side came in the 56th minute, when some good play by Sturridge down the right flank allowed him to get some space towards the byline and dink a cross towards the back post, which is where Clark was waiting and he could not miss, heading home from just three yards out.

Their second goal came just three minutes later, Sturridge received the ball on the edge of the box with his back to goal, he hit a shot on the turn and found the top left corner - a spectacular strike.

As for Andy Preece’s side, their best opportunity was in the 66th minute, when in the aftermath of a corner the ball would fall kindly to Warren Clarke in the middle of the box, his shot was hit straight at Max Metcalfe in the Oxford goal who gathered it with relative ease.

Chorley will now switch their attention to next Saturday’s fixture away to Scarborough Athletic.
