THE ten men of Chorley succumbed to a 2-1 defeat away to Marine on Easter Monday.

The Mariners went in two goals to the good at the break courtesy of finishes from Fin Sinclair-Smith and Charlie Jolley, but Chorley fought back in the second period and scored via Owen German – however a second yellow card and subsequent red for Scott Wilson meant the comeback was insurmountable for The Magpies in the end.

The first goal for Bobby Grant’s side came on 12 minutes, a long ball by keeper Fraser Barnsley was not dealt with by Harvey Smith, George Newell got onto the end of it and played a through ball into Sinclair-Smith, who slotted his effort past Matt Urwin.

Marine then doubled their lead 19 minutes later; Jolley was played in behind and bearing down on goal one-on-one he showed great composure to round Urwin and finish into an empty net.

Two substitutes combined for Andy Preece’s side to get a goal back, Tom Walker touched the ball down excellently on the right wing and checked inside onto his left before offloading to German, the man on loan from Altrincham got the ball out of his feet and side footed it into the far bottom corner via the post.

However, any hopes of a comeback for Chorley were diminished four minutes later when Scott Wilson was given a second yellow card for pulling down Sinclair-Smith as he latched onto a long ball.

The Magpies will now turn their attention to Saturday’s fixture against Curzon Ashton back at the Grant Store Victory Park Stadium.
