CHORLEY put in a perfect smash and grab performance to clinch all three points right at the death in a 1-2 victory against Macclesfield.

A goal from Mark Ellis and a last gasp winner by Mike Calveley was enough for Andy Preece’s side to cancel out Isaac Buckley-Ricketts opener.

The Silkmen took the lead in the 50th minute, when some good play down their right-hand side eventually resulted in Luke Matheson putting a low cross into the box and it was met by Buckley-Ricketts who slotted his effort past Matt Urwin.

Chorley drew level ten minutes later though, when a Jack Moore free-kick was met at the back post by Mark Ellis, Ellis put the ball back across goal and it was inadvertently put into his own net by a Macclesfield player.

The winner for Chorley would come deep into stoppage time in the 95th minute, another Moore freekick, this time it was deflected and hit the crossbar, it then bounced off the back of Rogan Ravenhill in the Silkmen goal and Mike Calveley would act the fastest in the box and slid in to poke the ball home.

Andy Preece’s side can be very thankful towards their captain Matt Urwin for two excellent saves, the first down low to his left from a well struck Luke Duffy freekick and the second in the 92nd minute when striker James Gale was bearing down on goal through one-on-one, but Urwin showed his class to parry his effort away from goal.

Chorley will now look forward to Tuesday evening’s fixture at home to South Shields back at the Grant Store Victory Park Stadium and live on DAZN.
