THE ten men of Chorley held on valiantly to finally get back to winning ways at home to Bedford Town.

Jack Sampson’s glancing header just before half time was enough for the Magpies to come away with all three points at the Grant Store Victory Park Stadium.

In a game which lacked many clear-cut chances Andy Preece’s side will be happy that they were able to take the game by the scruff of the neck and survive the last 12 minutes or so whilst being a man down, following Joe Nolan’s straight red card in the 84th minute.

The goal came in the 43rd minute, when a Jack Moore free kick was met in the air by Sampson, and he got the slightest of touches to guide the ball into the bottom corner.

Elsewhere there were half chances for Milan Lalkovic, Mike Calveley and Tom Carr, however all three saw the efforts blocked well by a stubborn Bedford backline.

The Eagles themselves had a few opportunities of their own, most notably in the 41st minute when Tyrone Marsh slipped in Greg Taylor in the box, but the Bedford number six smashed his effort into the side netting.

Taylor once again had another chance, this time deep into injury time in the second half, the ball fell perfectly for him on the volley but he blasted his effort wide.

The Magpies will look to carry momentum from this result into Tuesday’s game at home to Spennymoor Town.
