CHORLEY succumbed to a 0-1 defeat at home to Peterborough Sports on Saturday afternoon.
An early goal by Max Booth was enough in the end for The Turbines to take all three points in a game which lacked many clear-cut chances.
The game winner came in the 12th minute when Luca Miller broke down the left-hand side for the visitors, Tom Walker would do well initially to win the ball back but inadvertently gave the ball away in his own box to Booth, who could not miss and slotted home into an empty net.
Phil Brown’s side could have had a second on 30 minutes when Connor Wood released Booth on the left-hand side, he cut inside past Adam Henley and forced a good save down low by Matt Urwin at his front post.
Just before half time the Magpies had their first opportunity of the game, a good cross by Max Wilson met the head of Joe Nolan who connected powerfully with his effort but unfortunately it flew straight into the hands of Peter Crook in The Turbines’ goal.
Sports would have another half chance in the 63rd minute, when Shaquile Coulthirst fought well to take the ball of Henley near the corner flag, he put a deep cross into the box which Booth managed to get on the end of, his header would trickle wide.
The closest Andy Preece’s side came to scoring was late on in the 87th minute, when defender Harvey Smith drove forwards with the ball from deep and opted to shoot from range, his effort took a slight deflection and flew narrowly over the bar.
Chorley will now look towards Tuesday evening’s game against Leamington once again at the Grant Store Victory Park Stadium.
