CHORLEY were unfortunate as they succumbed to a 1-0 defeat away to Alfreton Town.
Jo Cummings’ goal against the run of play in the first half was enough in the end for The Reds to hold on to as they took all three points on Tuesday evening in Derbyshire.
The goal itself arrived on 25 minutes, as following a Kieron Freeman free kick, the ball was headed back across goal by Gerry McDonagh and fell kindly into the path of Cummings, who eventually got it out from under his feet and finished past Urwin.
Andy Preece’s side had numerous half-chances throughout the game but could not find the back of the net.
The best of which would fall to Harry Ibbitson after half an hour, following a long throw by Sam Bird which bounced in the box, Scott Wilson flicked it on to Ibbitson, who hit a snap-shot which forced a good save by Alfreton keeper Charlie Casper down low to his left.
Casper was also tested by a Mike Calveley header at the back post; the keeper tipped the midfielders effort behind.
There were also opportunities for both Warren Clarke and Taelor O’Kane, with Clarke firing across goal just wide of the target and the latter with a tame effort from the edge of the box which was easily gathered by the goalkeeper.
The Magpies will now switch their attention to Good Friday’s encounter against local rivals AFC Fylde back at the Grant Store Victory Park Stadium.
