CHORLEY were desperately unlucky to come away with nothing in their 1-0 loss away to AFC Fylde on Boxing Day.
A Danny Ormerod goal was enough for the Coasters to clinch all three points in a closely fought encounter at Mill Farm.
The young forward, who was on loan at the Magpies last season, was slipped in behind on 17 minutes by Ethan Mitchell and finished well underneath Matt Urwin to get the only goal of the game.
However, it was a very even contest with chances for both teams.
The best of which for Chorley came in the 62nd minute, when a Jack Moore free kick was headed down by Mike Calveley to Tom Carr in the box, the striker had more time than he thought though and snatched at his effort, sending it straight at Zac Jones in the Fylde goal.
The hosts had a golden chance of their own just two minutes into the game, when the ball fell very kindly to George Wilson inside the box, Joe Nolan though put in an excellent challenge to prevent the midfielder from scoring.
Elsewhere a good save from Urwin denied Wilson’s curling effort midway into the second half to deny the Coasters from doubling their lead.
Fylde also had a goal disallowed early in the second half when a Tom Whelan free kick was met by the head of Max Taylor, the defender was ruled offside though.
The Magpies were the better side for the majority of the second half though and had decent opportunity when some interplay between Milan Lalkovic and Warren Clarke resulted in the latter bearing down on goal, it was a tame effort though and was comfortably saved by Jones.
Andy Preece’s side thought they had a definite penalty in injury time when Anjola Popoola went down in the box, the referee however opted not to point to the spot, despite at first viewing it seemed as though the young striker had his legs swiped from beneath him.
Chorley will now turn their attention to Tuesday evening’s game against Marine back at the Grant Store Victory Park Stadium.
