A first derby of 2022/23 coming up later as the Magpies (13th, 21pts) make the twice rearranged trip west to battle neighbours Southport (12th, 22pts).

Andy Preece’s men ended October with a third home win in four matches last Saturday against Farsley Celtic – Southport went down 4-1 at home to Buxton.

Always very keenly contested games against Southport and this weekend will be no exception. We’re both battling on the fringes of the playoff spots and we’re fully prepared for a difficult encounter – Andy Preece

Our Opponents

  • Club Southport FC (The Sandgrounders)
  • Founded 1881
  • Manager Liam Watson (5th season)
  • Last Season 11th in National League North (57pts)

Last Season

Connor Hall on target in the FA Cup last September

Just the four games during 2021/22 – starting with two Emirates FA Cup Second Round Qualifying matches in September; a 2-2 draw at HQ followed by a 1-0 replay defeat at Haig Avenue.

The National League North encounters were more profitable for the Magpies. A dire 0-0 away draw this time last year made way for a thunderous 2-1 win at HQ in March – Ollie Shenton scoring twice in the second half to secure the points.
