BOOKINGS are now being taken for Mariner’s Sports Bar ahead of our next set of home games at the Chorley Group Victory Park Stadium – Kidderminster Harriers (Feb 21), Buxton (Feb 25), Boston United (Feb 28) & Hereford (Mar 7).

Named after one of the greatest players to wear the famous black and white stripes, Mariner’s Sports Bar replaced the 1883 Lounge as our go-to pre and post-match destination for fans and sponsors alike on New Year’s Day.

Paul Mariner – a Magpies legend

Paul (left) with then secretary Mick Wearmouth

Paul graced Victory Park for two seasons in the early seventies – in what was the start of an illustrious career that included prolific spells with Plymouth Argyle, Ipswich Town & Arsenal – and 35 caps for England, including five at the 1982 World Cup in Spain, where he also scored in the 3-1 win over France.

A FA Cup and UEFA Cup winner with Ipswich, Paul retired from playing in the early 90s after a spell in the US. He went into coaching and had two spells as a manager – with Plymouth and Toronto FC (MLS). He also spent a number of seasons as co-commentator on Major League Soccer coverage of New England Revolution – a club he’d spent time with as assistant manager and Director of Player Development.

Sadly, Paul passed away last year aged 68, but he will always be remembered at Victory Park as one of the greatest players in the club’s history.
