REPORT: Merthyr Town 1-1 Chorley

The Magpies claim a deserved point on the road at Merthyr Town...

CHORLEY had to battle hard in a 1-1 draw away at Merthyr Town.

Warren Clarke’s first half goal was cancelled out by Elis Watts’ late equaliser as both sides came away with a point in South Wales.

Andy Preece’s side took the lead in the 23rd minute, when following an Adam Henley cross into the box, Clarke headed home brilliantly, in the bottom of the crossbar.

The Martyrs levelled up late on in the 83rd minute, as Elis Watts showed some good skill going into the penalty area, and curled his effort into the top left corner.

Chorley had a few other opportunities carved out by Elliot Taylor, both times he pounced on a long ball forwards by Li-Bau Stowell and beat several defenders before having his attempts saved by Jaimie Cogman in the Merthyr goal.

Paul Michael’s men had chances of their own though, and hit the woodwork thrice throughout the game, most notably from Jacob Maddox and Iwan John, the latter having the whole goal to aim at.

The games come thick and fast for Chorley as they will now turn their attention to Bank Holiday Monday’s fixture against Brackley Town, back at the Grant Store Victory Park Stadium.

Chorley: Stowell, Henley, Smith, Hunt, Blakeman, Rowe (Horbury 75’), Calveley, Fielding (Bird 88’), Bala (Whitehouse 65’), Taylor,(Salmon 70’) Clarke (Hazlehurst 83’). Subs not used: Ellis, Popoola.
