REPORT: Clitheroe 3-1 Chorley

The Magpies exit the LFA Trophy at the hands of Clitheroe...
CHORLEY were defeated 3-1 by Clitheroe in the Lancashire Challenge Trophy.
Adam Blakeman’s second half free kick was not enough as goals from Jason Gilchrist, Jordan Carroll and an own goal saw the Magpies exit the competition on Tuesday evening.
The Blues started off quickly and got themselves a penalty when Mark Ellis was judged to have brought down Alhagi Touray in the penalty area, Gilchrist stepped up and converted from the spot in the sixth minute.
The hosts doubled their lead three minutes later, when a ball across the Chorley box was inadvertently prodded into the wrong net by a Magpie defender.
Andy Preece’s side got a goal back in the 67th minute in fine fashion, when Blakeman hit a free kick from over 30 yards out excellently and it nestled into the bottom corner.
However, Clitheroe got third in the 80th minute, when a Jordan Windass corner was met by Carroll near the front post, as his header found the back of the net.
Chorley forced Blues keeper Liam Isherwood to make a few fine saves, most notably denying Steven Bala twice late on in the second half, getting a strong hand to both shots.
The Magpies will now turn their attention back to the Enterprise National League North where they host Spalding United this Saturday afternoon.
Chorley: Stowell, Whitehouse, Ellis (Hunt 66’), Bird, Blakeman (Moore 72’), Horbury (Denning 81’), Rowe, Salmon (Cummins 84’), Bala, Sampson (Clarke 72’), Popoola.
