GOALKEEPER Kier Barry capped off another stellar display in this pre-season with 75 minutes against League One outfit, Wigan Athletic on Saturday.

Manager Andy Preece, who has kept an eye on Kier for several years now throughout his development through the youth ranks with the club, has been particularly impressed with how the young stopper has performed of late.

"Kier was excellent on Saturday keeping a clean sheet for the 75 minutes he was on the pitch.

To play as well as he did in a big game against League One opposition shows how he has matured.

It's difficult for young keepers to get ganes and be trusted. Kier has been with us for five years coming through our academy and has been out at steps five and six, earning that trust over the past three seasons.

He has over 100 games in competitive mens football already at only 20.

You could tell that during the game, the save second half was top drawer.

We try hard to set long term plans for our young lads. Our aim is to develop them for long careers at the highest level possible.

You could only be impressed by his performance although we weren't surprised. He works extremely hard and understands his pathway.

A lot of credit goes to Drenchy for his hard work with the keepers. Matty also has a big input with our young keepers working alongside Drenchy."
