WE return to playing at Victory Park for the first time in nearly six months this evening, facing off against a Lancaster City side that features two Magpie legends in Andy Teague & Sam Ashton.
Unfortunately, due to restrictions imposed by the government on teams playing in the top six tiers of English football, we aren’t allowed to permit any spectators aside club staff. Believe us when we say we’re as exasperated by the situation as you no doubt are. We remain hopeful that sense will eventually prevail, but until then, we’re behind closed doors.
Harvey Smith is officially a Magpie for 2020/21. Who’s next?
More of the same; first teamers, under-21s and trialists..
- Chorley from Matt Urwin, Lewis Dutton, Arlen Birch, Matty Taylor (T), Harvey Smith, Ethan McGuire (u21), Scott Leather, Andy Halls, Ashley Smith-Brown (T), Lewis Baines, Ollie Shenton, Adam Barton (T), Mike Calveley, Elliot Newby, Udoyen Akpan (T), Lewis Reilly, Sope Awe (u21), Ollie Putnam, Kai Shorrock (u21), Malakai (u21) & Sean Miller
It’ll be nice to get back to playing at Victory Park after such a long time away, but it’s a major disappointment that we aren’t allowed fans in. It’s a very strange situation, especially when we’ve seen how well social distancing measures can work already. Nevertheless, we’re looking forward to another good test as we continue to prepare for an October start. Fitness is the main aim, against a team with a number of very familiar faces – Jamie Vermiglio
Last time we met
The Lancashire Challenge Trophy semi-final at the County Ground in March, 2018. A Jason Walker goal was the difference, paving the way for the Magpies to take on and beat Clitheroe in the final a month later.
We will be live from Victory Park bringing you all the best of the action with as much coverage as possible across our social media channels. Reaction and highlights will follow the game.
A reminder that, frustratingly, this game has to be played BEHIND CLOSED DOORS due to government regulations.
