Longstanding assistant manager Jonathan Smith has reluctantly decided to move on to pastures new ahead of the 2020/21 season.
The former Accrington Stanley skipper originally joined the Magpies in 2009 as a player before moving seamlessly into the dugout as one of Garry Flitcroft’s management team – continuing in the role of assistant manager under both Matt Jansen and Jamie Vermiglio. He’s recognised by the board, staff and supporters as having played a huge role in the Club’s recent successes – he’ll also be remembered for his rendition of ‘Ice Ice Baby’ during the National League North promotion celebrations.
Unfortunately from our point of view, Smudger has been offered an opportunity he can’t turn down. He has been an incredible servant to Chorley FC; an integral part of the backroom team under Garry and Matt, and absolutely vital for me. To be able to work with people you implicitly trust in football is a huge thing and to have that strong relationship is brilliant. I know the decision wasn’t an easy one and he’s wrestled with it for a while. He will be a friend for life and I wish him an unreserved amount of luck in his new position – Jamie Vermiglio
Everyone at Victory Park would like to wish Smudger all the best for the future and thank him immensely for his invaluable work for the football club over the last decade.
