ONE of the Magpies longest serving players is one of two prominent squad members moving on to pastures new in 2020/21; we’re saying goodbye to all-action midfielder Jake Cottrell, as well as long-serving left back Adam Blakeman.
The 32-year-old Cottrell joined us from FC United of Manchester in 2013 and was part of Garry Flitcroft’s all-conquering Northern Premier League title winners in his first season at Victory Park.
Five years later the Mancunian was once more heavily involved in a promotion race that ended in playoff final victory over Spennymoor and our return to the National League for the first time in nearly 30 years.
Jake’s been formidable since his arrival at the club and helped us secure two promotions. Known as the man with three lungs to the lads, he has been and will continue to be well respected by any player he comes up against. I was fortunate to play on the same team as Jake, and also to manage him. Unfortunately, his future lies elsewhere. We thank Jake for all he’s done for the club and wish him every success in the future – Jamie Vermiglio
Blakeman moved to Victory Park from Southport in 2016 and will be remembered for his free-kick equaliser at Halifax in the 2017 National League North playoff final, as well as his swashbuckling 2018/19 campaign when he scored 12 times, helping win our third promotion in eight years.
Blakes was an important signing for the club and his contributions have been immense. He was an integral part of our promotion winning team and has truly embedded himself and his family into the Magpie Family. We thank him for everything he has done for Chorley and wish him every success in the future – Jamie Vermiglio
Also leaving us after just one season is Louis Dodds, who joined last summer on a free transfer from Port Vale. The veteran midfielder made 21 appearances in all competitions before the 2019/20 was ended prematurely in March.
Everyone at the Club would like to wish Jake, Adam and Louis the very best going into 2020/21.
