Latest NewsBoard statement: The end of 2019/20

23rd April 2020

YESTERDAY we were notified by the National League that the 2019/2020 season had been brought to an end following a vote by member Clubs.

The results of that vote weren’t due out till May 7 but due to an overwhelming majority being reached after a near 90 percent of clubs had cast their votes, the decision was been made to cancel the rest of the season.

As far as Chorley FC are concerned the cancellation of the rest of the season’s fixtures should result in the 2019/20 records being expunged. We believe this to be the only fair option available as any artificial points situation will leave most parties disgruntled.

We are realistic as a club and will abide by the National League’s decision on the matter. However, fairness and a realistic approach to the immediate end of the 2019/20 season must be in the interest of all clubs.

The Club has come a long way over the past decade and we want to approach these difficult times together. What can we do as a club; as directors, staff, supporters, sponsors and players? We ALL need to be ready for next season no matter the division we’re playing in.

Football Clubs are rarely awash with money and coronavirus has brought its own unique financial uncertainty. Victory Park needs some fairly major improvements and plans for this were well in hand before the government’s lockdown (which the Club fully supports) hit home, putting many obstacles in our way, as it has done for everyone.

We’ve launched several initiatives including the 200 club, a renewal offer for existing pitchside board holders and our Crowdfunder project ‘Help The Magpies Fly’ where we’re asking all supporters to pitch in a fiver.

The immediate income from these fundraisers will enable the Club to cover for the loss of attractive home fixtures and also enable the investment into everyone’s favourite second home, Victory Park.

It’s your club, it offers so much enjoyment to so many people. If, in these difficult times, our supporters and sponsors can remember us, and if you are able to help, YOUR CLUB will be eternally grateful.
