Latest NewsEducation Programme looking to the future

29th March 2020

CHORLEY FC have been working hard raising aspirations of 16 to 19-year-olds across Lancashire and Greater Manchester with an football education programme delivered in partnership with Thornleigh Salesian College and LLS Online.

The programme, which started in September 2019, takes young people on a two-year journey of elite training, outstanding education and high quality outcomes. LLS, an award-winning organisation that specialises in post-16 education, is supporting the Magpies in offering young people access to a first team football pathway, university courses, USA scholarships and global coaching opportunities.

LLS has been delivering successful education programmes for the past 10 years. Working with Chorley FC has allowed us to cater for students who wish to work in the professional football industry and selecting the correct partner, who shared our core values of developing students and putting their needs first, was important. We’re already experiencing success having one student sign a first team contract only six months in to the courseJay Brittles (Assistant Director of Education, LLS Online)

The programme allows students to study a BTEC Level-3 Extended Diploma in Sport, gain significant work experience and open up a professional network for future employment. In addition, students can select to study A-Levels as a part of the school sixth form provision.

In support of the education is an elite football programme, led by UEFA Pro Licence coaching badge holder Andy Preece, whereby the students train three times per week and play a competitive fixture every Wednesday afternoon.

From ages 16 to 19 players develop massively and given the right coaching and environment can improve dramatically. On the course they will be given every opportunity to achieve their maximum potential and I will make sure they get every chance to play at the highest level achievable. We don’t make silly promises, we value every scholar and will help find a pathway that suits their skills. Whether it’s non-league football, Football League or Premier League, I’ve had experience developing players who’ve played at all levels. Already we have players at just 16 involved with the first team and under-21s at Victory Park, which shows what is achievable in a short period of timeAndy Preece (Assistant Manager, Chorley FC)
