THE Magpies were undone by a Cameron King header on the hour as an otherwise battled display produced plenty of positive play but no points.
The first half was a fast, frantic, enjoyable 45 minutes. Halifax began much the stronger, with Devante Rodney in particularly looking the most likely to break the deadlock.
After finding the net after 40 seconds, only to be flagged offside, the imposing forward twice gave Chorley food for thought, making two lung bursting runs from deep. Matt Urwin denied him initially, before a Teague block stopped his second effort in its tracks.
The Chorley response was impressive, considering they spent the first 20 minutes mainly on the back foot. Debutant Connor Hall tested Sam Johnson’s reflexes from close range, before both the Bolton loanee and Alex Newby tried and failed to force home a rebound. Alex then hammered a long range effort against the upright, before a reminder from the visitors of the threat they carried; the ever-dangerous Rodney seeing Urwin tip a long range effort onto the post.
The second half began at a much slowly tempo, with neither side looking likely to create much. That was until the hour when Cameron King ghosted onto a driven cross from the right to plant a controlled header beyond Urwin.
The game continued to meander after the goal. Chris Holroyd and Josh O’Keefe were introduced, and the latter was close to an equaliser from a Scott Duxbury corner, with the flick on headed over by Antony Kay.
That was as close as the Magpies would come to an equaliser.
