CHORLEY secured their first victory of the season as they eased to a 3-0 success against rivals Stockport County.
The Magpies got off the perfect start, taking the lead on six minutes. A horrible mistake in the Stockport defence left Chris Holroyd with the easy task of beating Ben Hinchliffe from 10 yards.
Numerous long and contested balls later it was 2-0. Matt Challoner nipped in front of a hospital ball to Ben Jackson, played a one-two with Alex Newby, and laid it on a plate for Holroyd to grab his second of the game.
Marcus Carver went close to a third for the home side, but his header from an Andy Teague cross was just over the bar.
After not registering a single effort on goal in the first half, County brought on Nyal Bell at the start of the second half. He almost had an immediate impact when Adam Thomas slung a cross over from the left, but it was just too high for the forward.
Thomas was a continuing menace down the right side for County, but despite putting in a number of excellent crosses, the only effort on target his side could create was a weak header from Bell that Crellin held with ease.
Chorley were still a threat going forward, and from a Challoner cross Lewis Baines was inches from extending the lead, before late on Holroyd almost got his third only for Hinchliffe to just hang on after his defence sold him out.
The icing on the cake came deep in stoppage time when Carver’s flick-on was confident dispatched past Hinchliffe by Elliot Newby.
