THE Chorley FC Former Players’ Association was officially launched on Saturday by the Club’s Community Foundation.
Former Magpies captain Eddie Birchall was guest of honour at the 2019/20 season opener with Bromley at Victory Park, where he met chairman Ken Wright and first team management trio Jamie Vermiglio, Jonathan Smith & Andy Preece.
Chorley FC is a club steeped in history and the Former Players’ Association is an important initiative. We hope to be able to share and capture memories from those who have played their part in getting the club to where it is today and launching it in the same year we celebrate 100 years at Victory Park fits perfectly – Darren Jenkinson (Chair, CFC Community Foundation)
During Eddy’s six-year spell at Victory Park (1963-69) he became a firm favourite with fans for his midfield displays, amassing 266 games and scoring 12 times.
A football club with the history and status of Chorley FC should have a former players’ association and I’m delighted the trustees of our Community Foundation decided to introduce the initiative. It was a great privilege to welcome record scorer Peter Watson to the playoff final in May and then Eddie Birchall to the season opener against Bromley. Both men gave so much to the Club during the 1950s & 1960s and having a group focused on bringing more Magpies back to Victory Park for friendship and mutual support is a great thing for us to offer – Ken Wright (Chairman, Chorley FC)
