A mixture of first teamers, trialists and under-21 players produced a good display to eventually see off the spirited challenge of Euxton Villa on a beautiful evening at the Jim Fowler Memorial Ground.

The teams traded goals in the first half, with Trialist (5) heading home from a corner to give The Magpies a 33-minute lead, before the home side equalised with a cross-shot from the left just before the break.

The second half, which by the end saw 10 of Chorley’s team made up of home grown prospects, was a bit more one-sided. Trialist (10) returned the lead to Chorley’s hands with a brilliant overhead kick, before under-21 skipper Josh Agbozo extended the visitors’ advantage with a looping header.

Forward Sope Awe, who represented Lancashire at under-18 level last season, came off the bench to score the fourth with another impressive header, sealing a good win for Jamie Vermiglio’s side.

Magpies: Eccles; Agbozo, Hooper (Lee, 42′ (Bateman, 86′)), Anson (Lightfoot, 65′), Trialist (C.Moore, 46′), Trialist (Whitaker, 77′), Trialist (R.Moore, 65′), Greenfield (Barrow, 80′), Trialist (Stepans, 46′), Trialist (Awe, 61′), Trialist (Brickell, 46′).

It was great to get so many of our good young players involved tonight and see how the handle playing against a good standard of senior footballers. The Club has some very good young players in the ranks and this kind of opportunity can only stand them in good stead going forward. We’ve also come away knowing a little more about some of the trialists we had featuring too, so all-in-all it was a productive eveningJamie Vermiglio
