Chorley FC Women grabbed their eighth win of the FAWNL season over rock bottom Crewe Alex at CAFC’s Reaseheath Training Complex on Sunday afternoon.

The pitch was perfect for Chorley’s attacking style of play Within the first few minutes the visitors had a chance. Abi Fenton did brilliantly to win a free kick on the right and the resulting delivery saw Betti Worth narrowly beaten to the ball by the home ‘keeper Holloway.

On the 10 minute mark, Chorley’s early pressure paid off. The ball was floated diagonally into the area and met by the head of Ellie Mills to angle it past Holloway despite the best efforts of the defender on the line.

Moments later, Chorley had two long range efforts by Lisa Topping and Beth Donoghue but Crewe remained firm and cleared the danger. Despite the lack of action in the away half, Rachel Darbyshire had to be alert to parry Booth’s drive our for a corner. On the half hour mark, The Magpies doubled their lead. Fenton again in the thick of the action whipped a delightful cross in which rebounded into the path of Donoghue who finished into the bottom corner.

In the second half Chorley started by adding to their tally. The ball was slipped through to the advancing Katy Morris and she made no mistake, slotting past Holloway. The game slowed down from there and neither side created much before Rebecca Kemp and Donoghue both sent efforts narrowly wide.

The fourth came on 74 minutes when Megan Searson’s chip through found Donoghue, who beat her marker before scoring with ease. Sub Grace Vella also hit the bar in the dying minutes, but Chorley had to settle for four.

Chorley: Darbyshire; Mitchell, Searson, Worth, Fenton (Vella, 65′); Walker (c), Mills (Coope, 58′), Morris, Kemp, Topping; Donoghue.

HT 0-2 / FT 0-4
