Andy Teague’s stunning first half opener wasn’t quite enough for Chorley as a dubious late penalty for Telford meant the spoils were shared at Victory Park.
The Magpies made two changes to the side that drew with Chester as Josh Wilson returned from injury and Dale Whitham replaced Josh O’Keefe in midfield after his loan spell at FC United ended.
Chorley: Urwin; Challoner (Jordan, 40′), Blakeman, Teague (c), Leather, Meppen-Walter, Whitham, Cottrell, Carver, Wilson (Almond, 81′), E.Newby. Subs not used: Tuton, McGurk, Hooper.
Telford: Bursik; White (Brown, 78′), Smith (Barnett, 67′), Deeney, Sutton (c), Streete, McQuilkin, Royle (Morgan-Smith, 56′), Daniels, Udoh, Knights. Subs not used: Morley, Dawson.
Chorley hit the front early on when Marcus Carver held the ball up on the byline and fed the ball back for Andy Teague to hammer a half volley past Josef Bursik.
Much of the rest of the first half was spent with the teams vying for midfield superiority. Telford’s top scorer Daniel Udoh had a couple of chances; the first ended with the Nigerian on the deck and the ref pointing for a goal kick, the other was snuffed out by a combination of Courtney Meppen-Walter & Matt Urwin.
The Magpies started the second half in determined mood, forcing a couple of corners before a good chance came. Dale Whitham won the ball in the midfield and laid it forward for Josh Wilson to strike just wide from the edge of the box.
Marcus Carver tested Bursik from a brilliant defence-splitter from Jake Cottrell as the home side continued to push. Teague, now in a wing back role, also got in on the act again, this time with a left-footed effort that Bursik did well to keep out.
Down the other end Urwin was at his very best to keep out a low Brendon Daniels free kick. Then, following a Theo Streete foul on Carver, Ellis Deeney picked up a straight red while the ball was dead. The decision was contested vehemently by the visitors, but regardless, they pushed men forward and got their reward with four minutes remaining.
Daniels was adjudged to have been fouled by Teague. The ref said it was outside, the linesman said inside. Daniels dispatched to grab Telford a point.
