Fleetwood Town defender Lewis Baines has joined The Magpies on loan for a month as the festive games begin in earnest.
The 20-year-old signed his first professional deal with The Cod Army in the summer of 2017 before reupping for another two years just six months ago.
The squad is a little thin on numbers at the moment and Lewis was available on a short-term basis. I watched him last season at Bamber Bridge and liked what I saw. He’s a no nonsense defender who reads the game very well. Fleetwood want him to continue his development and are happy for him to do that with us. I’d like to thank Fleetwood, and Stuart Murdoch in particular, for helping us out with the move – Jamie Vermiglio
Lewis’s season so far has featured a seven-game loan spell at fellow National League North club Ashton United, as well as 45 minutes in the EFL Trophy against Bury and being named as a sub for Fleetwood’s League One game against Luton Town a fortnight ago.
