This game was over before half time as a rampant Chorley put three past the hapless Sandgrounders within 35 minutes. Andy Teague, Adam Blakeman and Alex Newby tallied to put the home side in complete control, before an own goal by Jordan Richards at the start of the second half put an exclamation point on a fantastic night.

Courtney Meppen-Walter returned to the backline in place of Stephen Jordan, as Jamie Vermiglio made one change to the side that beat Nuneaton.

Dean Winnard replaced Nathan Lowe as the only change for the visitors.

05′ CHANCE (Chorley): Elliot Newby lets fly from 20 yards after a turnover, only for Dan Hanford to superb tip his effort over the bar.

06′ GOAL (Chorley): From the resulting corner Josh O’Keefe returns the ball into the box allowing Teague to plant a header past Hanford under immense pressure.

07′ CHANCE (Chorley): Louis Almond teed up Elliot Newby, who just missed the target with his right foot.

17′ PENALTY (Chorley): Blakeman dispatched the spot kick low to the keeper’s left after Alex Newby was taken out in the box.

39′ CHANCE (Southport): The visitors’ first effort on goal, from Dion Charles, whistled over the bar from long range.

43′ HITS THE BAR (Chorley): Alex Newby held the ball up before pulling it back for Challoner to hit first time, and but for a deflection the bar nessles in the net.

47′ GOAL (Chorley): Alex Newby skipped into the area, pulled the ball across goal only for Southport’s Jordan Richards to put it past his own ‘keeper.

49′ CHANCE (Chorley): Alex Newby struck a free kick from range that was well held by Hanford

50′ RED (Southport): Almond came off worse in an off the ball incident with Dean Winnard, who’s subsequently sent off.

67′ CHANCE (Chorley): Elliot Newby turned in the box and got his shot away only for Hanford to deny him.

82′ YELLOW (Southport): Josh Langley caught Lewis Short with a late challenge.
