U21 MATCH PREVIEW | RIASA West away

This Saturday sees the Development Squad in a return to league action with a trip across the Pennines to face Leeds-based RIASA West.

With poor weather predicted over the weekend, it is hoped that the 3G pitch at the Westwood Hall Conference Centre will see the match survive after a series of enforced  postponements.

The two sides have met already this season, under the floodlights at the Chorley Group Victory Park Stadium.  The September match saw the young Magpies run out 2-1 winners over the American students.  RIASA is a US-based sports and university programme where players have the opportunity to develop their abilities as part of their football education through playing professional academy/reserve teams. In addition, students will have the opportunity for professional internship opportunities in a variety of fields connected to the sports industry.

The Development Squad have five wins from five games and sit in second place in the Galaxy Lancashire League West, whereas RIASA West are currently in seventh spot on seven points with two wins, a draw and two losses.

For the Development Squad, this will be their first match without David Chadwick in charge, following his move to FC United of Manchester last week.  His assistant, Paul Greenacre was asked if he wanted to step up to the manager’s job and he was happy to take over.

Looking forward to taking over from Chaddy, Greeny said ‘It’s an exciting time ahead of us.  We have a number of established players going out on loan to further their development.’

He added ‘This in turn will hopefully give us room to have a look at other players and start promoting some of the under 18s.’

And addressing some concerns that his management style will mean a different style of play, Greeny said ‘The game plan will be no different.  We’ll continue to work hard and try to utilise our pace.’

Saturday’s match kicks off at 2pm – half time and full time updates will be available via our twitter feed at @Chorley_FC_U21
