Egerton 1-2 Chorley U18 (20/09/2015)

Chorley maintained their 100% winning start to the season but they were made to work for it by an Egerton team wanting to reverse last weeks result.

With 1st Team Manager Matt Jansen in attendance, manager Dave Lavery asked the young magpies to go out all guns blazing from the kick off in his pre match team talk and that’s exactly what they did, as after 3 minutes Lewis Kelsall received the ball on the edge of the box, had a couple of touches to beat two defenders and unleashed an unstoppable shot into the top corner.

From here though Chorley seemed to lose the composure they have shown in recent weeks and Egerton where taking full advantage of the home sides knowledge of the sloping pitch. With the game going end to end and neither side really able to take a foothold of the game, late tackles started to happen as frustration seemed to take over the young players heads.

Midway through the first half Ryan Farnworth attempting an overhead kick made contact with the brave Egerton centre halves head which resulted in him leaving the field and go to hospital to get patched up.

Half time came and Dave Lavery kept his players on the field for his team talk and with a few stern words they went out and fought for the game. Egerton though would not go away and deservedly got the equaliser when Chorley failed to clear from a corner the ball came back in and Egerton scored as the Chorley players watched on.

The goal looked like it finally woke the young magpies up as they went all guns blazing at the Egerton defence and a fair bit of indiscipline came in resulting in a number of yellow cards for the Egerton side. Chances came for a number of Chorley players with the best effort being Callum Darcy’s free kick that was well saved by the keeper. But on the 86th minute Callum Darcy again whipped a free kick into the box and Ryan Farnworth rose to head it into the goal. The celebrations by the Chorley side showed how much the goal mean’t and with the final whistle coming not long after the win was there’s.
