MATCH REPORT | Magpies play out a draw v Tamworth

The Magpies battled to a 1-1 with Tamworth on a cold night at the Chorley Group Victory Park Stadium. Josh O'Keefe's first goal of the season cancelled out Darryl Knights opener early in the second half as Matt Jansen's side extended their unbeaten home record to eight games.

Jansen made one change from the side beaten 1-0 at Spennymoor on Saturday, with Adam Anson slotting into the backline for Stephen Jordan. Tamworth were unchanged from their 3-2 victory at York City.

The first half struggled for intensity as both sides laboured under the lights. Eventually Tamworth created a half chance through top scorer Reece Styche, but the number nine's weak shot trickled across the face of Matt Urwin's goal.

The Gibraltar international's movement was causing problems for Chorley's backline, and Urwin had three of his defenders to thank for blocking out his next effort. Andy Burns was the first player to test Urwin, who saved easily to his left, as the visitors tried to turn the screw.

The home side's response came from Jason Walker who appeared to be shoved to the floor in the area from a Nick Haughton set piece. The striker managed to recover, turn the defender, and whistle a shot just over the bar.

A tactical switch on the half hour saw O'Keefe replace Adam Anson in an attempt to properly break open the stalemate. The resulting diamond midfield produced no more clear cut chances in the first half for the home side, but Styche went close again for the visitors, as did Knights, whose rising drive was tipped over by the increasingly busy Urwin.

The second half was less than two minutes old when Knights went one better. Put clean through the forward scored his seventh of the season by finishing low in the corner, despite Urwin's best efforts.

The goal woke Chorley up and they were level within four minutes as sub O'Keefe produced a lovely volleyed finish from 12 yards past a helpless Shaun Rowley.

Burton loanee Ben Fox should have restored Tamworth's advantage soon after but his close range header cleared the bar, and the assistant's flag was next to save the Magpies as Styche's powerful header was ruled out for offside.

Half chances followed, most notably from a Scott Leather header, but the stalemate wasn't for breaking, with both teams having to settle for a point.
