REPORT | Chorley 4 Darlington 1

The Magpies produced a thrilling display of attacking football to dismantle Darlington, extending their unbeaten run to four games in the process.

Jason Walker grabbed his first goals of the season, with right back Matt Challoner weighing in with his first of the campaign to put Chorley in command. Sub Harvey Saunders pulled one back for the visitors, but Matt Jansen's side wouldn't be denied as loanee Nick Haughton scored his first for the club to secure a second home win in three days.

Jason Walker for Josh Wilson (injured) was the only change from Saturday's victory over York. The Quakers made three changes from their defeat at Southport as Liam Marrs, Tom Portas and Leon Scott started ahead of David Syers, James Caton and Terry Galbraith.

A quick start from Chorley reaped immediate rewards as Stephen Jordan's deep cross was headed over the bar by Marrs, and from the resulting corner a penalty was awarded for handball. Walker stepped up to send the keeper the wrong way for his first goal of the season.

Chorley sensed blood and stayed on the front foot, with the game plan paying off again in the 32nd minute. Haughton expertly slalomed through the Darlington defence before dinking the ball over the advancing Adam Bartlett for Matt Challoner to tap home from a yard out.

Goal three arrived just before the break when the excellent Adam Blakeman set Walker free with a quick long throw. The forward found Marcus Carver, whose shot was saved by Bartlett. However, from the rebound the Chorley number nine picked out his strike partner who made it 3-0 from close range.

A double substitution for the visitors paid instant dividends early in the second half as James Caton's cross found Harvey Saunders in space to end Matt Urwin's clean sheet run at 369 minutes.

Josh O'Keefe should have cushioned his side's advantage soon after, hitting the post before shooting straight at Bartlett after being sent clean through. Blakeman stung the hands of the Darlo stopper for a third time, and Jake Cottrell almost capped his industrious display shooting just wide. But the night was finished off by the lightening quick feet of man-of-the-match Haughton, who pounced in the box to round off the evening in style.
