REPORT | Bradford Park Avenue 0 Chorley 0

Chorley played the second game of their Bank Holiday games at a sunny Bradford Park Avenue and left with a share of the spoils and a second successive clean sheet.

The away side kicked off the game at the Horsfall Stadium, playing towards the Cemetery Road end.  An early chance fell to The Magpies after just two minutes but the diagonal shot from Whitham was deflected out for a corner on two minutes. Blakeman took  the set piece which was defended well by BPA.

After three mins, Cottrell had a direct shot at goal from 25 yards however this veered to the left of the goal.  A minute later a mazy run by Oli Johnson into the Chorley goalmouth was defended well by the Chorley back three.

Captain Nicky Wroe had a half chance on eight minutes as he kicked a tame shot towards the Chorley goal, but Urwin was equal to it, and saved comfortably.

On twelve minutes Carver released a clever flick on, however it had just too much pace for Wilson who couldn’t chase the ball down before it was saved by Steven Drench.

Cottrell had another attempt at goal on sixteen minutes.  With no defenders close, he had a shot twenty yards from the goalmouth, however the angle was too wide and went out for a goal kick.

Twenty minutes in and Urwin was called into action when Wayne Brooksby nodded the ball towards the net and the shotstopper was forced to dive to his left, catching the ball comfortably in the process.

There was a pause in play on twenty one minutes as Keith Kearney, making his first start for Chorley went down with a mouth injury but was deemed fit to carry on after receiving attention by the physio.

Urwin launched a powerful goal kick, but Wilson couldn’t get on the end of the shot, and the ball bounced out for a goal kick at the other end of the pitch.

There was danger for Chorley on twenty five minutes when Brooksby had a shot on goal, however this was deflected over Urwin’s top bar and out for a corner to the home side.

On twenty seven minutes there was a chance for Chorley when Carver headed the ball down for Wilson, however the resulting volley went over the top bar.  Two minutes later there was an opportunity at the other end for BPA as the ball was whipped in from the left, finding Adam Boyes free in the box, but he headed the ball wide of the goalmouth.

Just after the half hour mark, Kearney found himself in the book for a push on Jarval Vidal, and a free kick was awarded from 30 yards.  The ball floated into the goal area but Kearney was on hand to head the ball away to safety.

On thirty five minutes some clever build up play by Chorley almost led to the opener.  The ball which looked to be heading out for a goal kick was stopped by Wilson who managed to dink it in front of the open goal mouth but there was nobody in the centre to knock it in.

Nicky Wroe was the next to see yellow after a pull on O’Keefe, leading to a free kick from fifty yards.  The ball arrowed towards goal, found Teague who knocked it towards Drench and ultimately out for a corner.  The in-swinging ball was knocked out to find Challoner who looped it into the goal area, and then out for a goal kick.

On forty two minutes, Leather fed the ball in to Carver, who managed to get between two defenders and heads at goal, but the ball went wide of the goal mouth.  The last action of the first half saw Brooksby played the ball forward but there was nobody available to reach it.

Half time saw an early substitution which saw Dale Whitham make way for Paul Jarvis.

The first chance came to Chorley as Cottrell put a cross in, but Drench was able to claim the ball easily.

On fifty three minutes, Carver made a pacey run up the wing and managed to get the ball into the centre of the goal area but there was nobody in red to find the net.

A superb save by Urwin kept the scores level on fifty four minutes as he tipped over a shot by Nicky Wroe from twenty five yards out.  Nothing came from the resulting corner.

On the hour mark O’Keefe could have had a shot at goal but opted to cross the ball to Challoner.  He chipped the ball towards the top left hand corner of the goal, but just too wide of the mark to trouble Drench.

On sixty five minutes there was a  second substitution for The Magpies as Carver left the pitch to be replaced by Jason Walker.   Seconds later Urwin made a stupendous diving save to prevent a Brooksby cross from finding the opening goal.

On sixty eight some great defending by Challoner who managed to beat Oli Johnson to a one on one ball, and played it back to Urwin who managed to clear the ball.

On seventy five minutes, Chorley won a corner to the right, but a leaping Drench was able to catch the ball with ease.  One minute later, the home side won a similar corner, but played it very short and the ball was kicked away to safety.

The final substitution by Matt Jansen saw Matty Hughes come on in place Josh Wilson.

The ball found the back of the net in successive minutes for Chorley.  O’Keefe nodded in, however the referee had already signalled for a free kick after an infringement on Blakeman.  The resulting set piece saw Hughes finding the net, however the referee had seen a foul on Drench and had blown his whistle.

With five minutes to go, the referee awarded a free kick in a dangerous area after a Challoner foul on Adam Boyes.  The ball failed to test Urwin as it sailed wide of the right hand post and out to safety.

BPA was awarded a second free kick in as many minutes when Teague brought down Vidal, however the set piece once again failed to break the deadlock.

An eighty ninth minute corner was awarded to Chorley; Teague rose for it but headed over the bar.

The remainder of the game was played out with nothing of note as Chorley played out the three minutes added time to a goalless draw.
