REPORT | Chorley 0 Brackley Town 0

The Magpies continued their difficult start to the campaign with a battling 0-0 draw against unbeaten early-season pacesetters Brackley Town at The Chorley Group Victory Park.

In a reshuffled back line, 17-year-old Rochdale loanee Isaac Ward made an assured debut replacing the suspended Scott Leather, with Adam Blakeman taking over from Josh O'Keefe in midfield and Paul Jarvis slotting in at left wing-back. The visitors were unchanged for the sixth game running.

An even first half saw the lively Marcus Carver, back in the starting XI following Friday's departure of Terry Gornell, get involved early, braving an awkward collision with the visiting keeper while chasing a through ball from Adam Blakeman. Carver continued to pester Brackley's backline but to no avail as the league leaders began to push forward. Matt Urwin had to be at his very best to deny Glenn Walker, before quickly tipping Lee Ndlovu's rebound around the post. Gareth Dean also forced Urwin into a smart save, before confusion at the other end almost gifted Chorley the lead. Unfortunately for the Magpies the deflection off Challoner's centre resulted in a Paul Jarvis' shot being blocked.

A cagey second period produced little in the way of goalmouth action as both teams battled the warm conditions. The best chance of the half fell to Josh Wilson, who fired over following good set up play by Jarvis. Jake Cottrell's speculative long range effort was the only other shot of note for the home side, while Brackley's tentative attacking produced a dangerous goal line scramble that Lee Ndlovu failed to capitalise on.

The game fizzled out with a number high balls, headed clearances, a booking for Cottrell, and an overriding sense of frustration from both teams.
