Bamber Bridge 0-4 Chorley (15/07/2017)

Saturday July 15th
Pre-season Friendly

Chorley’s pre-season continued with a good workout against our near neighbours Bamber Bridge at the Sir Tom Finney Stadium.

In a lively start for the home side Ben Carlsey almost capitalised on a Ritchie Branagan slip, but shot wide of an open goal then soon after an Ally Waddecarr cross was headed over the bar.

The Magpies soon got into the game and Matt Challoner crossed for Terry Gornell who was unlucky to mistime his header.

Another Challoner delivery found Marcus Carver who laid off to Josh O’Keefe, but the midfielder shot wide from close range.

Ex-Magpie stopper Lloyd Rigby did well to keep out a Jake Cottrell header then followed this up with another smart save from Carver

Branagan was then called into action at the other end, tipped an effort wide for a corner then diving low to keep out a Macauley Wilson 25-yarder.

On the half hour mark Chorley took the lead when another superb delivery from Challoner was turned in from close range by Carver.

Terry Gornell had an effort blocked, Carver tried to chip Rigby from range and O’Keefe had a crack from 18 yards but Rigby’s goal wasn’t breached against at the Magpies took a single goal advantaging into the dressing rooms at half time.

Once the game restarted it didn’t take long for Gornell to add to his summer tally, netting twice in the first ten minutes.  Heading in his first then lobbing Rigby to make it three-nil.

Jamie Milligan and Stephen Jordan both traded long-distance efforts, neither troubling either keeper, the Jason Walker fired over as the Magpies looked for a fourth.

The result was wrapped up five minutes from time when Will Beesley nodded in a left-wing cross.
