Kidderminster Harriers 0-2 Chorley 07/05/2017

Sunday May 7th, 3pm
National League North Play-Off
Semi-Final 2nd Leg
Won 2-1 on aggregate

A goal apiece from Marcus Carver and Adam Roscoe boked Chorley’s place in the National League North for the second time in three seasons.

Carver’s opportunist strike in the 19th minute squared the tie then the man who specialises in play-off semi-final goal netted his obligatory key goal in the third minute of injury time.

The boys in black and white quickly put the disappointment of Wednesday night’s first leg loss behind them and after surviving an early scare when Tyrell Waite shot wide took the lead on 19 minutes.

Carver chased a through ball to the keeper and looked third favourite in a three-way race for the ball; but the player who epitomises the never give up attitude nipped round Keith Lowe to poke the ball beyond Sam Hornby into the Harriers net.

Minutes later the travelling supporters thought it was two-nil when an Adam Blakeman free-kick smashed the underside of the bar but unfortunately there was no Russian linesman on duty at Aggborough.

The remained of the half was a tight affair with Carver and Andy Teague going close but not close enough as the two tightest defences in the National League North playing for the honour of being the best.

After the interval, the home side stepped on the gas in the chase for an aggregate lead, which they thought they had when Arthur Gnahoua netted from close range…  too close as it was as he was offside.

Matt Challoner was in the right place to clear one effort off the line then Ritchie Branagan pulled off two top quality saves, pushing an effort wide low to his right and tipped a drive onto the cross bar, to keep the score line level.

Matt Jansen started to shuffle his pack with Paul Jarvis replacing the impressive and cramping Josh O’Keefe and Adam Roscoe joining the attack, replacing Stephen Jordan as the Magpies switched from 5-3-2 to 4-3-3 in search of a winner.

Following a collision of head between Roscoe and Jordan Tunnicliffe, the referee awarded eight additional minutes of play… Roscoe time!

Back in 2011 Adam netted the winner in the Evo-Stik North play-off semi-final verses Curzon Ashton, then two years ago there was of course that 96th minute overhead kick.  Today the finish wasn’t a spectacular but just as important as in 93rd minute he raced into a Jarvis through ball to hold off Lowe before arrowing beyond Hornby to send the travelling supporters delirious.
