Chorley 0-1 Kidderminster Harriers 03/05/2017

National League North Play-Off
Semi-Final 1st Leg

At the halfway stage of our Vanarama North Play-off semi finals, Chorley have some work to do, after falling to a 1-0 home defeat to professional side Kidderminster Harriers at a packed Victory Park stadium on Wednesday night.

In fact, the only thing which separates the two sides at the interval is a sensational strike from Kidderminster’s Arthur Gnahoua on 77 minutes.

Having taken on two Chorley defenders, the winger unleashed a powerful drive beyond Richie Branagan and into the top right hand corner of his goal, sparking jubilant scenes from the 200 plus away fans who made the trip to Victory Park.

The match began with both sides looking to take the initiative and lead from the front, but Chorley squandered several chances which on another day they may have finished.

On 11 minutes Andy Teague’s cross from a deep position was headed just over from Marcus Carver, who gave the away side’s defence a torrid time all evening.

Just seven minutes later, the away side struck the crossbar, following a succession of corners. The ball was drilled in and Kidderminster’s captain, Keith Lowe, got there before any Magpies player, leaping the highest and bouncing his header just off the bar.

The second half began and Chorley grew in the ascendency, creating a multitude of chances as the match went on.

Marcus Carver’s pace was too much for the ageing Kidderminster defence as he chased Matt Challoner’s loose pass down on 54 minutes, turned well to face goal only for his shot to let him down, with no pace to the eventual finish.

Claims for a Chorley penalty were waved away on 70 minutes by the referee, who was booed off the pitch at full-time, as substitute Adam Roscoe was brought down by a Kidderminster defender.

Gnahoua’s strike is the only difference at the half-way stage of this tie, and it is well poised for Matt Jansen’s men to come back stronger at Aggborough on Sunday for a place in the Vanarama North Play-Off Final.
