Stockport County 0-0 Chorley 04/03/2017

Saturday March 4th

On a day when none of the top seven won, Chorley and County slugged out a goalless draw at Edgeley Park that moved the Magpies level on points with second placed Salford City and Kidderminster Harriers in third.

Early chances fell to Robbie McDaid who blazed over for Chorley while and ex-Magpie Sefton Gonzales thumped a shot so wide it went out for a throw-in!

McDaid, in for the injured Marcus Carver, was a thorn in the home side throughout with his pace and movement and tested Ben Hinchcliffe in the Hatter’s goal on 18 minutes, but the effort was straight at the ex-Fylde stopper.

County blasted a free-kick high over the bar following a Stephen Jordan foul then another ex-Magpie, Danny Lloyd, drove forward from the half-way line but waisted his opening.

Jack Sampson was unlucky not to get onto the end of an Adam Blakeman corner, the Blakeman drove over from distance.

McDaid and Jake Cottrell combined but the latter’s shot was easy for Hinchcliffe, then at the other end a dangerous free-kick on the edge of the area was superbly pushed wide by a full stretched Ritchie Branagan

After the interval, Gonzales picked Jordan’s pocked and pushed forward to earn a corner from which Lloyd picked up the ball on the edge of the area but couldn’t turn onto his stringer left foot to get a shot off.

McDaid played in Sampson whose shot was blocked then on counter County broke but Kieran Charnock’s tackle stopped the attach at the expense of a yellow card.

With a little over 20 minutes on the clock Jason Walker returned to action for the first time since his brace at Fylde on Boxing Day and was immediately in the action, combining with Sampson but the substitutes shot was blocked.

With the game deep into added time Charnock picked up a second caution and a red card after colliding with Gonzales to secure another clean sheet.
