Chorley had to settle for a share of the spoils after a hard-fought encounter at the Tameside Stadium.
Jason Walker opened the scoring on 9 minutes, picking himself up to convert a penalty he won, but Curzon levelled on 45 minutes when Jamie Baillie beat Sam Ashton at his near post.
The games started with Matt Jansen forced into making a couple of changes. Both Paul Jarvis and Sefton Gonzales joined Andy Teague in the treatment room meaning starts from Will Beesley and Marcus Carver while the latest graduate from the development squad, Jack Harley, made his debut from the bench.
The opening goal from the spot was won when Walker was caught from behind just inside the six-yard box. The referee pointed to the spot and after Hakan Burton’s attempted at gamesmanship Walker sent the keep the wrong way.
Curzon went close with a head in 17 minutes, but Ashton was untroubled, then Stephen Jordan broke down a counter attack.
Carver should have done better from 5 yards, but his side footed flick was easily held by Burton.
Carver then released Walker, but the goal scorers driven effort was deflected wide then it was Walkers turn to be provider, putting Beesley’s through and his shot looked destined for the far corner until Burton’s outstretch boot intervened.
With the whistle due at any second, Curzon grabbed an equiliser. Niall Cummind received a ball through the centre and quickly turned the ball outside onto the right flank where James Baillie received the ball, advanced and slotted past Ashton at his near post.
After the break the game took some time to get going as neither side could get into any sort of rhythm.
Adam Blakeman was brought on for Josh O’Keefe and later on Adam Roscoe can on for the injured Beesley.
With ten minutes to go the first real change of the second forty-five minutes arrived as sub Conner Hampson drove narrowly wide of Ashton’s post, and this sparked the game into life as Ashton was then called into action to punch a cross clear.
At the other end Carver almost netted but his curling effort was deflected just wide for a corner and from this Blakeman delivery Chorley supporters thought the Magpies had snatched a late winner with a Carver head cannoning off the underside of the bar, but not crossing the line according to the officials.
