Chorley had to settle for a point for the second game in a row as Brackley held the Magpies at The Chorley Group Victory Park Stadium.
Manager Matt Jansen decided to freshen up the line-up with captain Andy Teague and Dale Whitham coming in for Keiran Charnock and Josh O’Keefe.
The Magpies started the game well, pressing the visitors back and opened the scoring after just eight minutes when Jake Cottrell slammed the ball into the back of the net from the edge of the area giving the visiting keeper Laurie Walker no chance.
Matt Challoner and Will Beesley were a constant threat throughout the afternoon, their pace going forward and whipped in crosses being a constant torment for Brackley’s backline while in the centre the current strike paring of Marcus Carver and Jason Walker were combining well with signs of them forging an understanding of one an others play being to show.
Brackley had a strong spell at around the half hour mark, but from one attack Sam Ashton launched a counter which ended with Witham firing over.
With the break approaching Brackley levelled the score. A ball moved in from the right wing was calmly slotted home by James Armson, but during the build-up the Magpies were effectively a man down due to an injury to the influential Stephen Jordan who had to be withdrawn before the game restarted. His calf injury gifted Blackley the space they needed to create the opening.
After the break Carver forced a good save from Walker but them the visitors upped a gear with Adam Walker forcing Ashton into action.
Jason Walker was extremely unlocked with a headed chance from a corner. Despite him not being the tallest player on the pitch he does have the ability to seemingly ‘hang in the air’ when he jumps and following a well-rehearsed corner routine hit header rebounded to safety off the upright.
Teague then tested Walker, but twelve minutes from time Ashton won the ‘Save Of The Day’ award with a superb reflex block to deny Armson from close-range.
Substitute them followed Walker’s lead and headed the ball against the bar, this time the ball bounced infield but Beesley shot agonisingly wide.
Deep into injury time Beesley had the chance to snatch the points with the last chance of the game, but the left backs shot from distance sailed over the bar.
