A fifth clean sheet in seven games ensured the tightest defence in the National League North collected another three points against managerless Stalybridge Celtic.
Jason Walker netted his debut goal on his first start in the 20th minute and this was scant reward for an excellent first half performance where Marcus Carver saw an early effort cleared off the line another hit the bar and Waqas Azam slamming the ball against the post.
Jake Cottrell and Walker had other chances, but after riding their luck Celtic make it into the changing rooms somewhat lucky to only be a goal down.
After the restart the visitors upped their performance as three games in five days started to take its toll on some of the Magpies, but despite this Sam Ashton wasn’t stretched with the back three of Scott Leather, Keiran Charnock & Stephen Jordan looking as solid as ever.
