Winless Altrincham denied Chorley three points at Moss Lane with new Robins manager Jim Harvey taking a watching brief from the stand.
Despite the score line The Magpies were the more dominant side throughout but The Robins where dangerous on occasions.
Adam Blakeman almost opened the scoring on 9 minutes with a worldie of an effort, driving just over the angle of the goal from 30 yards with keeper Tim Deacey struggling to cover the effort.
Four minutes later and the Robins netted following their first real attack, the first time the ball had threatened the Chorley goal. Damian Reeves was put clean through on goal with a defence splitting pass and the Robin’s hitman slotted beyond Sam Ashton to the obvious delight of the home fans.
The impressive Will Beesley drove an effort at goal following a free-kick, but Deacey save well, but a minute later the former Bradford PA stopper couldn’t prevent Jason Walker form equalising. Beesley created the opportunity with a lung bursting run and cross which fell to Jake Cottrell inside the 6-yard box. However, with a tight angle and defenders and keeper in close attention, rather than hitting an impossible target the midfielder expertly picked out a pass Walker who slotted home through a sea of legs from 8 yards.
Chorley pressed for a second and Marcus Carver eventually made the pressure count, side footing in from close range following a Walker cross on 33 minutes.
The lead didn’t last long, just 6 minutes as where Blakeman and Beelsey failed with efford from range Sean Miller didn’t when he let rip from 20 yards, curling the ball into the top corner.
After the break, Chorley searched for a third and Walker rattled the bar on 50 minutes with Deacey beaten.
Carver crossed into an empty area, Cottrell fired wide from a Beesley cross, and the hosts stood firm to repel a series of corners as the hour mark was reached.
Both Josh O’Keefe and Beesley shot over while Ashton had to be alter to tip an effort from distance over the bar and scramble the ball away in a crowded box with the best of Alty’s second half efforts.
With the game heading for a draw Chorley came within millimetres of winning the match deep in injury time when a shot hit both a post and cross bar before flying clear of the hosts goal – sorry, not sure who shot due to being at the far end because of segregation at Moss Lane!
