The Magpies completed their pre-season preparation with a two-one victory over local rivals Bamber Bridge at Irongate.
Matt Janson selected the strongest available starting eleven with Andy Teague, Jake Cottrell and Jason Walker all absent due to holiday commitment.
In a tight first half neither side could break the other down, but this was as much caused by the lack of intensity due to the imminent start to the season with no players wanting to risk missing out not next week’s opening against FC United of Manchester.
Sefton Gonzales and Dale Whitham twice had opportunities, while Sam Ashton was largely untested at the other end.
In the second half Chorley started the stronger and controlled the majority of the half.
On 47 minutes Marcus Carver finished superbly, curling in beyond home keeper Marcus Burgess after excellent approach from Gonzalez
Five minutes later is was two-nil, Adam Blakemen’s cross was expertly dispatched by Gonzales for his sixth goal of the summer.
Ex-Magpie Tom Williams reduced the arrears with 11 minutes on the clock, heading in from close range.
When the referee blew his whistle it signalled the end of the preparations, next Saturday it starts for real.
