3rd Qualifying Round

Chorley and Skelmersdale will have to do it all again on Tuesday night after a 0-0 draw at Victory Park. Both teams will have an eye on Monday's first round draw, but will have at least another 90 minutes against each other writes Elliott Walsh.

Matt Jansen will be wondering how his side didn't manage to win the game after dominating for long periods of the game against a Skelmersdale aide who were content with playing on the break.

The first half saw neither keeper really tested. James Dean went close early on after Darren Stephenson's hard work down the left hand side allowed him to get forward before crossing to Dean who put the ball the wrong side of the near post.

Skem kept eleven men in their own half for long portions of the game, restricting Chorley to long range efforts. Cottrell had a header saved by Fearon late on in a half which would probably rather be forgotten by Chorley.

In pouring conditions it the Chorley who adapted best. At the start of the second half Mark Ross used the surface to his advantage to win the ball back. Some neat link up play with Dean and Cottrell led to the ball finding its way out to Darren Stephenson. The winger's left foot shot was blocked for a corner.

A good save from Fearon, low down to his right denied Andy Bond's strike from 20 yards, tipping the shot round the post.

Sam Cosgrove made his debut for the Magpies following a loan spell from Wigan. He looked lively and his running got the ball out to the left wing. Paul Jarvis found dean with the cross, but Dean's strike was blocked by his own team mate, Andy Bond, en route to the goal.

It could have been Cosgrove who opened the scoring. He was played through on goal by Cottrell before jabbing a left foot effort which trickled just wide of the far post.

Dean had a shot which was almost a mirror image moments later, the big man must have wondered how he hadn't scored as the ball narrowly missed the post.

Arguably the best chance of the game came very late on in the second half. Bond's corner was met by Teague, Fearon was equal to the header, getting down low to make the save. The rebound only fell as far as Dean who volleyed the ball onto the post.
