Chorley suffered their first defeat in five league games at Victory Park, losing 1-0 against Gloucester City writes Jack Wynne.

Chris Knowles headed the Tigers in front after 15 minutes, strolling into the box and directing the ball past Chorley goalkeeper Sam Ashton.

12 minutes played, Tom Webb looked to test Ashton for the first time in the evening but his low shot from outside the box sailed wide.

City took the lead after some slack defending from Chorley, Knowles being allowed a free header in the box which he nodded past Ashton.

Seven minutes into the second half, Darren Stephenson looked to pull the hosts level, his low shot from outside the box heading straight into the side netting.

Dale Whitham had a big chance to pull Chorley level after being teed-up by Stephenson inside the box but his weak shot was easily blocked.

65 minutes played, Jordan Connerton looked to test Gloucester goalkeeper Jasbir Singh but volleyed the ball out of play from outside the box.

Knowles went close to doubling his tally with four minutes of normal time remaining as his header rattled against the bar following a corner.

Into injury time, Sterling-James was through on goal with just Ashton to beat but knocked the ball too far ahead giving Ashton the chance to snuff out the opportunity.
